HOW PUSHING PAUSE ON SOCIAL MEDIA LED TO BEING PRESENT AND THE INSPIRATION TO LAUNCH A NEW PROJECT
Hello Mommas😊! I have been gone from the blogging radar for way too long. I pray everyone is walking is peace and light.
SOCIAL MEDIA PAUSE
A mother’s job is never easy, dull or eventless and being honest, where I pretty much keep it together, life got to me and I had to pull back. Not only from blogging, but also from social media in general. Like most of us, I fell prey to how others supported and viewed me and my life, based on likes, shares, comments, etc. It is so easy to get lost in the acceptance and validation of others, where often, they have no idea of your ‘real’ life. I found myself depressed and exhausted from trying to find the right picture, caption, hash tag, right time of day, right day of the week and the list can go on. I had to stop. I had to breathe and be present.
ENJOYING THE MOMENT
So instead of trying to capture moments, I choose to enjoy them. Which led to inspiration and appreciation for the little things. One of these moments occurred when I was reading to my daughter. This book, Scrabble Scribble, was based on an immaculate scribble she drew over a year ago. When my daughter initially asked me to read her drawing, honestly, I thought mommy writes but dang this might be stretching it a bit. Then I saw her eyes, she was so confident I could do it, so I tried. Seriously, to my surprise I read that drawing like she handed me an essay, complete with a lesson about sizes in sequence. I don’t have to tell you, I felt like a boss right then😊. So fast forward to months later, I am reading her book, as I often do, when I saw this sparkle of pride in her eyes. She hung on every memorized word and said, “I did that mommy”. She was proud! Her scribble was on a book. A book on her shelf, beside books mommy bought in a store. I always introduce the author and illustrator of the book before I begin so it was then I finally saw it, felt it and understood it. I said “lets read Scribble Scrabble by Sharllah Brewster and Kaydance Brewster” and she giggled with excitement …. talk about an ah ha moment.
THE PROJECT
By the next day that moment played on repeat in my head, and in the shower (where almost every creative venture is birthed) it came to me, THE LITTLE ILLUSTRATOR. A project focused on harnessing the natural creativity in children ages 10 months to 5 years, giving them the opportunity to have what my daughter had, the pride of having her name and drawing in a book.
The concept is all too simple:
1. You as parents allow your child to create freely (the messier the better 😊).
2. Then you take a pic of the amazing artwork and email it to me with your request for a book.
3. You place your order pick you package and book size.
4. I read your little one's artwork and create a story sure to please (yes, each story will have an age appropriate lesson involved anywhere from shapes to colors or sizes).
5. I send you the draft so you get an idea of the story and offer any additions or tweaks you would like to make (I think you will just read and thumbs up…I am a pretty awesome storyteller).
6. Then build and edit the book and off to print.
Then 10 – 12 days after I received the artwork, you will have a printed copy of your child’s first book collaboration, along with a Certificate of Recognition, the print of the original artwork and full on parental pride.
PROJECT LAUNCH
THE LITTLE ILLUSTRATOR is finally out there, and I couldn't be happier. What people are saying, the reviews and seeing some of the expressions of kids as young as 20 months old, is more fulfilling than I could have imagined. Parents can't wait to tell friends and family members, that your child co-published a book. And to make it an even more gushable moment, your book is an exclusive copy, so it is not for resale and no two stories are ever alike, making it as one of a kind and your child.
A little step back to regroup and gain perspective, goes a long way.
